Husband and wife team, Mark and Michelle van Zoelen are managing directors of Richmond-based residential building company MVZ Builders Ltd.
Our business was established forty years ago, not long after Mark completed his apprenticeship in Nelson. Over the years, we’ve specialised in more complex architectural builds and major alterations, although no job is too big or too small. Our passion for the building industry runs deep, and Mark thrives on passing his knowledge down to his apprentices.

“One of the most important parts of our business is the relationships we have with our clients, ensuring they are part of the build process. Unlike some builders, we love working with our clients and welcome them to visit building sites.
We also spend a little more time making sure everything is right, and this always makes for an easier and higher quality outcome. We’re a small company, so we focus on helping our clients with their ideas and sorting out any issues on site. Compared to the modern way of building, this can be tough to find these days.
